The space program called for developing a middle school classroom wing with gymnasium/locker rooms that could also be used by the elementary school. This expansion had to be located so the existing elementary and high school buildings could be connected providing indoor passage between the buildings.
This addition is designed to allow expansion for both the elementary and middle schools.
